Echoes of Hopper

So I'm not a genius (I knew it. Double rats.). But I have seen flashes of "Hopper" in Mad Men shots, themes, motifs. Never more so than a quick frame from last week's episode, Hands and Knees. Just took a quick look at Basket of Kisses before I head out this morning. Here is Art Imitating Art. (image via Tate (UK) org) Update - later that day...another post from last year--they don't miss a thing, those clever Basket Cases.

Ah yes, it's true, there is a very Hopper touch in Mad Men. Last Sunday's episode was nothing short of extraordinary and I can't wait to see what is in store for our gang... Meow!

I agree, Mary-Laure. I'm trying to be patient about having to wait until Monday to download episode via iTunes. I can't believe we're down to 3 episodes & that's it. I've already filled Netflix queue w/first 3 seasons to review. Too bad it's not my job to do so:) Meow from GG back to LA!

Werner Herzog inserted a number of the paintings of Caspar David Friedrich as farmes/scenes in his earlier films. Mad Men makes perfect sense with Hopper.

How true! It never crossed my mind, but indeed, it's true Hopper. And, I'm alnost as fond of Hopper as I am of Mad Man. This season has been truly mindblowing, the creators are absolute geniuses. I'm particualrly impressed by the subtle touches and metaphores they use to indicate how the times are changing and are about to drastically change.

S, my decoupage paper is :stripe amber chiri/black - found in Blick Art Store. Hope you'll be able to find it, it's so lovely! Get your hands dirty with some Mod Podge glue, it's cathartic. :) Hope you're having a relaxing Sunday. xo

Susan--I'm drawing a blank on the paintings in Herzog (it's been a long time)-- my brain is a sieve, ergh. Thank you for mentioning. Will look into that today.

Tina--Yes. You & Susan (ArtSparker) seeing this esp. reinforce the notion (as artists yourselves). As I type this, last night's episode is downloading from iTunes. As it's a rainy day & I have to be in, I will watch it during the day & not feel like a layabout:)

Thanks for letting me know about the paper & for encouraging decoupage madness. I will get on with it by the weekend & let you know how it works out.

Simon--I must see what you Aussies were up to over the weekend. I don't see a long one printed on my int'l calendar. Were you giving yourself a long weekend? Hmmm? lol

This painting is lovely. I love trains, hats, and Mad Men.

Simon--I apologize for implying that you were goofing off. My kitchen calendar does indeed list Australian Labour Day.

Angie--Isn't it? I don't recall seeing this painting in person. Even at two Hopper exhibits in the '00s (or whatever we're supposed to call them). And hey, you know I'm with you on the trains, hats, & MM. xo
