Good Grace

Please excuse the last few goofing-off posts; I really don't feel very well & am still debating Strasbourg & other journeys & revelations therein. A few people de-followed & I regret that you have been offended. (apparently). I know the layout of this blog is offending me at the moment, but there's absolutely nothing I can do about it right now. Meanwhile, I hope to remain in the good graces of others who stop in to say hello. I do like hearing from you. -- Susan

I rented
The September Issue to watch the deleted scenes, the extras, & it was worth it. Last month WWD reported that Grace (I cannot call her Ms. Coddington, unless she insists) is working on a memoir. Because she is gracious, it will not be all about her -- though that would be fascinating. Here's a link to a Times Online article last year
. Her darling book The Catwalk Cats (with Dider Malige, her beau) was published in 2007. The short video clip is worth clicking to see GC's necklace--wow.

(British Vogue, August 1962 by Carapetian via stylite (dot) com; GC, The September Issue, via Sunday Times, still hunting for the still photographer credit. RJ Cutler directed.)

Hope you're feeling better soon, Susan. I think we all get those de-followers...got one myself today. Can't please all of the people all of the time, right?

Here's a quote I love -

"Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self."
Cyril Connolly

Thanks, Catherine. You solved the mystery for me (about one anyway), so I feel better. I totally agree with Connolly. Most writers whom I know well do not have a comment function at all. It's not from meanness or anything...it's to keep from some of the above & also it's not why they blog.

Cheers. I must keep Grace in mind as someone who keeps to her vision, even if she ends up losing the battle at times (at work).

Cheers.

Susan- the point is this:-

This is your blog, and its layout and content is yours. If we all want to simply be "tele tubbies" and win popularity awards then it would lose its colour.

There is 100% nothing wrong with goofing off posts, serious posts or whatever posts. if people switch off - let them.

I can say (with my hemochromatosis) blogging has kept me motivated..some days difficult to walk I will still do a bush walk to post! :o)

Anyway more on the "revelations" and leaving for Europe at 17- or whatever! would be great! 'cause I am waiting for the next part

Simon--I agree. I was a pretty hard-hearted editor at one time. I think maybe it wasn't the goofing off so much as my cheeky political/social commentary. Ah well. Thanks for that.

Pamela (hi Edward from Giulia!)--

Thanks for mentioning Grace. I love her...that scene in the documentary when she looks so wistful & says something about being the last of the romantics...there's a reason, I'm sure you'd agree, that she become the surprise breakout star of the show. She rarely gives interviews, so who knew? The deleted scene I loved was one in which she talks about photographers & the lessons she's learned from them. Lovely.

I quite enjoyed The September Issue - I found it interesting so many of the fashion-makers were so dressed-down and un-manniquinned.

Dear Susan
Well I get my fair share of de-followers... and suspect they have more to do with quota.. or at least I like to think so... basically.. I love all my followers and especially commenters.. they motivate me to try new things ... I had 'no art' until I started blogging.. so I appreciate each and every one of you!!! Especially my blogging/email buddies such as yourself.. I think you , Simon and I have quite a bit in common.. and quite a lot not!! which makes it all the more interesting..

So.. don't worry!!! we love you!!! and you put up with my weird comments that often make no sense!! hahaha

Take care.. I WILL BE BACK TOMORROW!!!!!! for more reasons than one!! xxx Julie

ps love the Cyril Connolly quote Catherine put up..

Very eager to read Mrs Coddington's memoirs! I greatly admire her.
Maybe Giulia has read Coddington's Catwalk Cats opus from a few years back?
